When a Dream Becomes Reality

After a month’s public consultation, we received permission from Barnet Council and a licence to confirm that we can hold a zero waste/farmers market on the 3rd Sunday of each month. And crikey, our first one is next Sunday 23 May between 12 and 4 outside The Flower Bank. We’ve had lots of interest so far from stallholders and members of the public but expect plenty of social media announcements next week as we (I say we, but it’s actually Helen Harte who’s incredibly impressive and hardworking and particularly productive in the small hours when I’m asleep) moves into overdrive. My neighbour and wonderful supporter from 2 doors down David has kindly offered to play acoustic guitar as accompaniment to the market, co-incidentally it’ll be the first time in a year that he and his bandmate have been able to perform together. Street markets have been the safest form of trading throughout the pandemic, and I’ll have 2 amazing Volunteer Marshall’s, Anna and Martha - controlling visitors and traffic next Sunday. When I’m not being all clipboard and high viz jacket this week, I’ll be making the flowers for an at-home bar mitzvah reception and writing up 2 quotations for brides, who have been very fortunate and haven’t had to postpone their weddings. These are all signs that our lives are slowly returning to normal, and it’s lovely to have some positivity. Have a great week.
